The qualification aims to verify the skills, capability, and professionalism of the welder and to
qualify them accordingly according to the fields of validity specified by the relevant regulations.

Welder qualification can be carried out with reference to the following international standards:

UNI EN ISO 9606-1 | Metallic materials

Services offered

International Weld, accredited by ACCREDIA in accordance with ISO/IEC 17024, offers
certification services for welders of metallic materials.

International Weld is a Recognized Third Party for the approval of personnel involved in the
execution of permanent joints for pressure equipment in categories II, III, and IV, in accordance
with Annex I, Article 3.1.2 of Directive 2014/68/EU PED.

Reinforcement Steels (B450C)

For welders working with reinforcement steels, qualification is carried out in accordance with
the standard:

UNI EN ISO 17660-1 and 17660-2

How the
Certification
Process Works

The certification of welding personnel involves the following steps:

1. Acceptance of the economic offer.

2. Submission of the certification application.

3. Qualification activities, including a practical test and the required laboratory tests.

4. Deliberation and issuance of the certification.

The qualification activity involves the execution of one or more sample tests representative of the production, overseen by qualified inspectors from I-WELD.

The choice of the representative sample test is often dictated by various conditions such as the execution location (workshop or construction site), available equipment, joint geometry, acceptability criteria, material thicknesses, and diameters to be welded, as well as accessibility.

Destructive and non-destructive tests required by standards are carried out at laboratories accredited by I-WELD. Preparation for the test execution can occur through specific training programs or through in-house training under the supervision of an expert.

Application Opportunities

The UNI EN ISO 9606-1 standard, which applies to manual and semi-automatic welding processes by fusion, came into effect in November 2013 (replacing the historical EN 287-1), introducing several innovations in the field of welding personnel certification. One of the most important innovations in the standard is the possibility to extend the validity of the certification for up to three years.
